Welcome to Brightspeed, where we bring you reliable, high-speed fiber internet service. Here’s what you can expect from the process of ordering and setting up your fiber connection.
After confirming that Brightspeed is available in your area, you can order Brightspeed Fiber optic service via our website. Once you’ve placed your order for service, we’ll ask you to choose a date and time for your installation appointment. Remember that your Brightspeed technician will need access to the interior of your home, so someone 18 or older will need to be present at the time of the appointment.
After choosing a date, you’ll receive a confirmation email. If you don’t see an email, check your inbox’s spam folder, or see more tips if you’re still not getting our emails. We’ll also be happy to assist you by phone; just call 1-833-692-7773.
Your confirmation email will include the details of your service appointment and will invite you to create a My Brightspeed account. Creating an account will allow you to track your service order and make changes if necessary.
Our expert technicians will install your Brightspeed Fiber connection, including a fiber optic cable and optical network terminal. In most cases, a fiber optic internet installation will take approximately three to four hours. Some installations may require a return visit, but you’ll be able to start using your fiber internet connection in the meantime.
These are some key things to know on the day of your Brightspeed Fiber installation:
You don’t need to purchase new equipment for your installation or make any changes to your property. We’ll provide the terminal, cable, and all the necessary tools.
Need to reschedule your installation appointment? It’s easy — just log into My Brightspeed and navigate to the My Appointments tab. You can change your appointment’s time and date to a new one that works for you.
If you decide to cancel your service before installation, you won’t pay any fees, and Brightspeed will refund your first month’s charge as long as you cancel before the installation date.
For more about the process of installing fiber internet at your home, see our guide to fiber installation.
Brightspeed will provide an optical network terminal for your fiber connection. A fiber connection uses a network terminal rather than a modem, so a standard cable or DSL modem won’t work.
We highly recommend using a router provided by Brightspeed. Every Brightspeed router has received extensive testing for peak performance with our fiber network, and you’ll enjoy the full suite of Brightspeed features. The cost of your router will depend on the service packages available in your area.
However, you’ll have the option to use your own WiFi router if you’d prefer. Any router you plan to use should have the following characteristics:
1 Gbps Ethernet WAN port
Ethernet 802.1ad with VLAN tagging on the WAN
DHCP with CHAP authentication on the WAN
LCP Echo responses
802.11ac and/or 802.11ax WiFi technology
Accurate auto-channel selection
Ethernet port must transfer data at the same rate as your plan speed
Note that using your own router may affect your ability to access certain Brightspeed features, including security, optimization, and technical support features.
